Diabetes and the Pancreas
When we consider Type 2 diabetes we should recognize the pancreas. The pancreas is a gland with the primary function being producing insulin and digestive enzymes. In fulfilling these functions we should be reminded that it can only provide these tasks efficiently if treated without abuse. We need to give our pancreas a break from misuse and stress. The most effective means of reducing this abuse is to decrease the amount of food that we eat.
By overeating, regardless of the food’s nutritional value, the pancreas overworks in an effort to digest this extra. Begin by decreasing portion sizes and add high enzyme foods such as mangoes, pineapple, bananas, avocados, sauerkraut, ginger and honey. These foods will supplement the pancreas in digestion. Implementing these two habits will help preserve the pancreas thus reducing the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
