Cannabis Use in Medicine

Cannabis use in medicine has an interesting history. The preparations were widely available legally from the 1800s to the 1900s. Cannabis was listed as a legitimate medicine in th US Dispensatory during the Civil War. It was available as a consumable liquid, inhalable and edible medicine for cough, pain and in childbirth. Cannabis was considered legal in every state until 1915.

Although treatment with cannabis is controversial, powerful evidence exist to support use for chronic pain among other medical conditions. Regardless of this evidence more research is required before diagnosis and treatment can be implemented.
