Managing Stress In Diabetes - Part 2 (Simple Suggestions for Managing Stress)

The following are suggestions for beginning to manage and reduce stress.

  1. Have a trusted medical provider for advice on diabetes care. An endocrinologist and/or mental health professional might be necessary.

  2. Find hobbies or activities to occupy your time and attention.

  3. Reach out to friends and family.

  4. Utilize a certified diabetes educator or the American Diabetes Association.

  5. Stay on top of medication dosages and schedules. Learn all there is to know about how each medicine works to help diabetes.

  6. Plan meals ahead of time. Learn how different foods affect blood sugar levels. Eat healthy.

  7. Try guided meditation. An app such as Insight Timer has many free guided meditation sessions.

  8. Keep a journal of diabetes ups and downs. Record what makes your journey difficult or better.

  9. Make a list of tasks that need to be completed daily.

  10. Try a massage.

  11. Exercise.

  12. Get plenty of sleep.

  13. Listen to music.

  14. Read or listen to books.

  15. Avoid alcohol and/or drugs.

  16. Do not smoke.
