The Good Carb for Diabetes
Fiber in the diet is considered good to regulate diabetes. According to the CDC “Fiber is the carb that helps to manage diabetes”.
It is thought to keep gut functions properly working. Fiber is clarified as roughage or the part of plant based foods that cannot be completely digested by human enzymes.
There are two types of fiber, soluble and insoluble.
Soluble fiber slows down the digestive process thus slowing blood sugar spikes. Some examples of soluble fiber are dried beans, peas, oats, apples, strawberries, bananas and Brussel sprouts.
Insoluble fiber usually remains whole as it passes through the stomach. It helps to reduce insulin sensitivity and irregular bowel habits. Some examples of insoluble fiber foods include carrots, bran, nuts, seeds, oatmeal and popcorn.
